The Yomega Firestorm yo-yo is a very good yo-yo for the price. It may not be good for looping or may not be very smooth, but it sleeps like a rock. I don’t have one of these yo-yos, but two of my friends have them. Every time I go to school I actually get excited if one of my friends brings it. I can make it sleep for 30 seconds. That’s twice as long as my Spintastics Technic yo-yo, which is twice the amount of money. You can even do advanced tricks on it like the Brain Twister. Overall I think this is a great beginner/intermediate yo-yo.

The Yomega Firestorm isn’t the best yoyo out on the market, even if it isn’t one of the worst ones. It was my first yoyo that wasn’t a fixed axle and it amazed me at first, but later on when I got more experience with yoyos, I found out that the performance on this yoyo is actually a little worse than one of those dollar store yoyos with the brain removed. It’s a good yoyo for starters and people that really don’t care about yoyos, but if you’re looking for decent string tricks, long sleep times, looping and smoothness, this isn’t one to buy.

The only thing I can say about the Firestorm is it’s just plain junk. There are so many better yoyos for beginners out there. It can sleep okay, but it’s a horrible looper and unsmooth on string tricks. The only thing Yomega and Bandai were interested in doing is to get kids with no idea how to yoyo to buy their cheap hunk of junk. If you tighten it too tight you will strip the axle and it will be worthless. So bottom line is to stay away from this yoyo.

As far as I am concerned the firestorm SUCKS!!! The only thing it is remotely good at is loops. But other then that unless your looking for a cheap yoyo and you don’t really care much about yo-yoing then STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!!

THIS is supposed to replace the fireball? This was one of the first yo-yo’s I bought when I got “back into them” and it was awful. Within a couple of days the transaxle somehow got chipped slightly, and it never came back from sleepers. I ended up stripping the axle somehow but can’t remember how I could have possibly twisted it hard enough to do so — it seems to be very weak plastic. Don’t bother.

All i’ve got to say is i can’t believe i spent 10 bucks on this piece of crap. This is the worst yo yo i’ve ever bought. Ithink they made it to sucker toys-r-us shoppers into spending their hard earned cash. Using it is comparable to driving a car with a flat tire that hasn’t had an oil change in 10 years. It sleeps for a long time, but my old uncle charlie sleeps 14 hours a day, and that doesn’t make him cool, even if my aunt ethel does claim he’s a big yo yo. Even with the axle and nylon sleeve lubed, it’s very unresponsive. Even when i can get the damn thing to return, it’s all jerky, as if the yo yo is drunk on sterno (like uncle charlie). I paid 4 bucks for a one piece wooden b.c. blackbird, another butterfly shaped yo yo, and that thing is way better. save your cash.

Well i got a firestorm after i traded my friend for a xbrain when i thought “if it is a transaxle, its good” and it was for about three weeks then after that it stunk. i tried as many mods as possible and i wouldn’t sleep, wouldn’t come up, and wouldn’t loop. i even tried spliting the plastic bearing apart to act as spacers, but it was still terrible. overall i think this yoyo should be erased from the earth.

The Firestorm was a really big disappointment to me. It only spun for 20 seconds ( my lowest spinning yomega yo-yo ) its returns weren’t that good and it looked lousy. Now when the craze of yo-yos was in in 1997-98 the only yo-yos I bought were Yomegas. I think the firestorm was the third yomega yo-yo I bought And just like raven at the time it impressed me. For example when I saw it I thought wow!. And as you can tell I just didn’t like it. First throw I knew it was horrible. Awful sleeps, not a very good looper, hardly any response, felt horrible in the hand and jerky as well. When I saw the firestorm advertised it was advertised as a “high performance yo-yo” but is totally and utterly the opposite as it is a very low performance yo-yo. Also in most reviews it was said to be a great looping yo-yo because of the shape but I find it awful for looping. Oh and one day it somehow started working totally crap. It was spinning for 10 seconds wasn’t coming back up and was really slowing down. So I unscrewed it and found that I had chipped the axle. But I cant think back to when or how I could of tightened it to much to chip it?. Anyhow this yo-yo is only 3-5 dollars so it is probably worth it for the money. That is probably why it is so low in performance. So if you want to get one then its all up to you but my advice is plain and simple just don’t get it. Happy spinning!

I had this yo-yo since these things were popular back in 99, and it was good then. Now it doesn’t sleep for more than 12 seconds (it used to sleep about 45), and that is only when I put a brand new string on it. The Firestorm used to beat down all of my friends’ yo-yos, but now it won’t respond after sleeping for about 10 seconds. This yo-yo is a good yo-yo at first, but then you have to replace it. I sugest this yo-yo for anyone who wants to learn some of the basic yo-yo tricks.

Where to begin… I want to tell you first of all that I’m no pro but rather an intermediate player. I can perform a few advanced tricks such as atom smasher and ripcord. I like string tricks for the most part and thats where my interest lies– Just a little info about where this review is coming from.
Firestorm by Yomega — This is what I believe to be a beginner’s yo-yo or training wheels for ball bearing yo-yos. In that respect it’s not bad. I know that when I returned to the yo-yo, after a spell that it helped to introduce me to the whole idea of a mobile axile yo-yo. In doing this it didn’t drain me dry of
cash either. I’ve graduated to ball bearing yo-yos since then and I have to say there’s no comparison in the performance between the two. I’ve read the reviews on this yo-yo and agree with some of what’s been said as far as performance and sleep time, not to mention responsiveness, but I also believe it’s taken a bad rap to some degree as well. Let’s be honest guys this was never intended to exhibit the performance or quality of say a Henry or Tom Kuhn (which I think is a bit over-rated to be honest I’d take a firestorm anyday over the sleep machine I got a hold of, it was a piece of junk–I haven’t tried it since B.C. started making them). I think it does a fair job at what it was created for. I was able to perform the tricks I mentioned earlier on this yo-yo, taking into account I didn’t expect the yo-yo to do them for me or try manhandle the thing to see if I could break it. This is my opinion. A yo-yo is only as good as the operator as long as the yo-yo is functional and this yo-yo while not aluminum or covered in gold is functional and a decent buy for a novice yo-yo player who isn’t sure about the more expensive bearing yo-yos yet. Like I said it’s my opinion ultimately it’s your decision and your money.
